TRICARE Coverage Availability & Fees
The TRICARE Dental Program is different from other similar plans and insurance companies. You are eligible to receive TRICARE benefits if you are:
- A family member of U.S. military personnel
- A National Guard/Reserve member (not on active duty)
- A retired National Guard/Reserve member under the age of 60
While the TRICARE dental program is administered through United Concordia, you can select from two options: single or family (two or more people). To access your benefits, you must agree to pay a monthly premium, which can vary based on your sponsor status.
When covered by TRICARE, you can expect the type of coverage to include:
- Preventive Services: 100% covered (in most cases)
- Basic Restorative Services: 80% covered
- Major Restorative Services: 50-60% covered
- Orthodontics: 50% covered
Similar to other dental insurance plans, there is an annual maximum. TRICARE maintains an average annual cap of $1,500 on what they are willing to pay. A separate orthodontic maximum is available.
Ultimately, what you agree to pay is your monthly premium and the cost-shares that are required when receiving dental care. United Concordia will be responsible for paying its portion, helping to keep out-of-pocket expenses low.
